Braves Retrospective - Matt Ward
- Dec. 10, 2007

Matt is currently playing
at Neumann College |
Playing for the Braves was the
chance of a lifetime and I enjoyed every minute
of it. Everybody in the town was very supportive
of our team through the good and the bad. Off
the ice was an unforgettable time, whether it
was the helpful staff at the YMCA or reading to
kids at local schools. The friendships that were
made on and off the ice will be with me forever,
and most importantly my billet Marnie Burbridge
is someone who went out of her way to make my
time in Brockville memorable. I am currently playing
for Neumann College in the E.C.A.C West of the
NCAA Division III ranks. I owe the Braves everything
for giving me the chance to continue playing hockey
after junior and am proud to call myself a Braves
Alumnus. Thank you to everyone who supported my
teammates and me through my three years and all
the best to the current players in their journey
through the season.
Sincerely,
Matt Ward |

Checks In
Brockville was a great place to spend most of my
Junior hockey career and I was lucky to call it
home for the better part of two and a half years.
Along with the rich hockey tradition found in Brockville,
I was fortunate to be associated with a top notch
organization. From management, to an outstanding
coaching staff, to great facilities like the Memorial
Center and YMCA, to the enthusiastic and supportive
fans and community, a young player like myself could
not have asked for more. I was welcomed into great
billet families who made me feel like one of their
own and I got to play the game I love with a talented
group players, many of whom will remain friends
for life. Having the opportunity to play and live
in Brockville not only developed the skills I needed
on the ice, but also some of the basic everyday
life skills required to succeed in life after hockey.
The opportunity to continue with my studies at St.
Lawrence College was also important, as this kept
me focused preparing for life after hockey. As an
alumni of the Brockville Braves, I have been fortunate
moving on to the State University of New York at
Geneseo, a Division III university, where I am playing
for the Ice Knights and going to university full
time.
Being able to play for the Braves opened these doors
for me. I have nothing but fond thoughts of my days
as a Brave and I appreciate everything they have
done for me both on and off the ice.
